OUR MISSION We believe that the only sensible and humane solution to the tragedy of pet over-population is to reduce the numbers of unwanted animals being born each day -- in turn, decreasing the numbers of animals euthanized in our community and region. We further believe that initial emergency treatment for critically ill or injured animals should not be out of reach for caregivers who are struggling financially. To these ends, we provide two programs unique to the Hampton Roads’ area. Our SPAY/NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (S/NAP) operates through the cooperation of local veterinary facilities. It is a two-tiered program; one tier is restricted based on household income, and the other tier is open to anyone regardless of household income. Unlike any other organization, payment plans can be arranged if the cost seems prohibitive in one lump sum. If you’d like information on this program, call us at 757-497-SPAY (7729). A full packet of information will be mailed to you. Our EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EMAP) can provide funds up to $300 so that a critically ill or injured animal can be seen by a veterinarian. We are the ONLY organization providing this service locally. DUE TO THE UNPRECEDENTED NUMBER OF EMAP PAYMENTS THAT HAVE NOT CLEARED THE BANK, THE EMAP PROGRAM HAS BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL JANUARY 1, 2009. WE SINCERELY REGRET HAVING TO TAKE THIS DRASTIC STEP. Donations to our EMAP program are desperately needed. Please send whatever contribution you can to Tidewater Humane at P. O. Box 68489, Virginia Beach VA 23471. Your gift will help save a life.
